And then I butcher it. Let’s try this again:
You can’t not like George Takei.

Okay wow, I’m dumb.
(Also no idea how to do that reply reblog thing, so here’s a lazy copy and paste.)
Cable company came and cut the cable off this morning. So I’m out of TV too. And I can’t pick anything up with the antenna because of the digital conversion a few years back. Without anything to focus on, my mind is starting to wander. And it is not going into any good places.
oh man aggressively ordering me to do something i’m already doing/planning to do is pretty much guaranteeing that i’m going to stop doing it and take the time to just stare at you with a half blank half incredulous expression on my face
Just gave my info to Job Corps. I’m waiting for a call now. Excited and terrified. Hopefully I can stay on campus the entire enrollment period too, because I’m really sick of this place
People being angry about ~dem gays~ on Target’s Facebook.
I just want to give my two cents on this and tell you a story.
A couple weeks ago, I was hired at Target. I have a job at Target. Not a big deal right?
It is a big deal because i’m a transman.
It doesn’t take a genius to conclude that it’s hard for me, my brothers, and sisters to get a job. There are legal restraints regarding the job and if you don’t pass, it’s hard to be taken seriously at a job interview.
Right on the application, it asks what your preferred name is. It also asks if there is anything that target should know. I put the fact that I am a transman, expecting not to get a call because usually when you put that down, people will throw out the application. I got TWO interviews.
At the interview, they asked me about it. I told them I am on hormones and they told me that they didn’t care. Not in the sense that they don’t emotionally care, but that it didn’t matter. I was male and that’s all that mattered. They also told me that they give sex same couples benefits in states that do not recognize them as a married couple.
At my job orientation, I was not misgendered once. Even my supervisors who weren’t sure of my gender avoided pronoun use, which I found only happens when you’ve had pronoun training. They gave me a name tag with my preferred name and didn’t ask questions. I felt safe and respected, which is huge for a trans* person.
TLDR: Target is amazing not just for the LGB, but also the T. Shop there for the rest of your life.
Target has had its share of problems, but their willingness to hire LGBT folks has always impressed me. I live in an area with a large LGBT community - all four of the letters well-represented. And the staff at my local Target reflects that. It’s so nice and sadly unexpected to see large companies stepping up like that.
Won’t have my phone when the new payment cycle hits, unless I can somehow get a job. So somewhere around the 6th.
Floating Sheep’s map charting hate tweets, which allows you to search on several flavors of hate, is a creative use of data and mapping to raise awareness.
This should probably be corrected for population density, but boy does Appalachia look like a hateful and backwards place.
Daaayum, Delaware, Ohio, stop using the N-word.
(That’s the city of “Delaware, Ohio,” not “Delaware and Ohio.”)
As someone who lives in central Georgia, I can confirm this is accurate
Listen to your mother.
